Action on the beach
15 January 2011 Events

Sailing or racing a yacht, paddling an outrigger canoe, scuba diving, a sea swim, sandcastle competitions and more: the Outgames “Out on the Beach” day on Friday 18 March promises action, adventure and fun.

Whether you are a beginner looking to put your toe in the water, or an expert, there is something for you. Wellington’s beautiful inner harbour, including the golden sandy beach at Oriental Bay, is the ideal location.

“Out on the Beach” activities include:

Sail Wellington Harbour
Royal Port Nicholson Yacht Club instructors will provide the yacht, the gear and the experience….all you need is your sense of adventure. There are two options: a leisurely harbour cruise, or a yacht race! You can book now through a link on the Outgames website. There are a maximum of 49 places over the seven boats.

Waka ama (outrigger canoeing)
The waka ama is a canoe with an outrigger for balance, and six paddlers. If you haven’t paddled before we have an experienced group who will introduce you and take you out for a gentle paddle on the harbour. For experienced paddlers we will organise some fun racing events.

Sea Swim
There are two distances, 1800m and 1000m, starting at Oriental Bay beach.

Scuba Diving
Dive with local experts in one of the beautiful locations around Wellington. (Places are limited, so if you are interested, get in touch through the email contact on our webpage.)

For those a little less water enthusiastic, there will be other beach activities including sand castle competitions, picnics, and more. This day is the perfect opportunity to have fun and catch up with friends and family.

Details including prices and times are on the website www.wellingtonoutgames.com (under Arts&Culture / It’s On)
