Internet to blame for increase in HIV cases -

The internet is to blame for the rise of HIV infections in New Zealand, the NZ Aids Foundation says.
The Foundation said HIV prevention work had been made particularly difficult by its inability to easily reach men hooking up over the Internet for sex.

Loss of fear factor a danger in epidemic -

The number of New Zealanders diagnosed with HIV has doubled in the past five years, and health educators fear it will go higher because people at risk believe medication will keep them alive.
More than 180 New Zealanders were diagnosed HIV positive last year – the highest number since testing began in the country 20 years ago, and 17 per cent up on 2004.

Whew! The New Zealand AIDS Foundation has distributed more than 200,000 condoms to gay and bisexual men in six months! That’s a whole lot of rumpy pumpy!
And the good news, says NZAF Gay Men’s Health Coordinator Douglas Jenkin, is it means a lot of men who have sex with men (MSM) are still using condoms for anal sex to protect themselves from HIV and other sexually transmitted infections
