    Bill will define marriage for man and woman - 4-May-2005
    United Future's Larry Baldock said today that he was delighted to see his Member's Bill defining marriage as between a man and a woman, drawn from the parliamentary ballot.
    "It is necessary, in the light of the Civil Union Act, to clarify once and for all that marriage is only between a man and a woman, and not between persons of the same sex," Mr Baldock said after the Marriage (Gender Clarification) Amendment Bill was drawn.

    More couples say 'I don't' after 30 years of marriage - 2-Jan-2005
    Families Commission figures showed nearly half of Kiwi mothers would be solo parents at some stage before they turned 50, and one in five would live in a step-family.
    Among two-parent families, increasing numbers of mums and dads were unmarried, and those who married were doing so later, having fewer children, and were more likely to have both parents working. The number of gay parents nearly doubled in the past five years.

    Gay Marriage - Court Case - 3-Mar-1996
    Dr Rodney Harrison, said on Friday that he had filed proceedings in the High Court at Auckland. A hearing date would be set after a March 28 procedural meeting between himself, the judge and the Crown Law Office.
    Dr Harrison is representing three lesbian couples who want a ruling that same sex couples are entitled to marry legally under existing law.

    Gay Marriage - Court Case - 25-Feb-1996
    Papers will be filed in the Auckland High Court this week by three lesbian couples seeking the legal right to marry. The women from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch have all been turned down by registry offices in their cities and one couple has also complained to the Human Rights Commission.

    Gay Marriage in Wellington - 28-Jan-1996
    Wellingtonians Jool Joslin and Jenny Rowan had a wedding earlier this month. They had applied for a marriage licence but were turned down by the Registrar General because of common law tradition.
    The actual Marriage Act does not specify that those seeking a marriage licence must be male and female however common law interpretation currently does.

    Gay Marriage and property rights - 21-Jan-1996
    In a major development this week the Minister of Justice, Doug Graham, announced that de facto and same sex couples should have property rights - but not the same as married couples.
    Mr Graham said that he would ask the cabinet to consider legislation to protect the property rights of both de facto and same-sex couples. Any change in legislation however will most likely occur after this years general election.
