Hero Safe Sex poster - 11-Feb-1996
A Safe Sex billboard put up on Ponsonby Rd, Auckland as part of the HERO Festival has caused some controversy. The image of the back of a naked man with the slogan "No if's, not butts, use condoms every time" has resulted in some motorists slowing down and pedestrians doing double takes.
The St John's Methodist Church next door has objected to the billboard saying the nudity is unneccesary and its location is disrespectful.
Hero Project directory, Scott Johnston, said the billboard had to be hard hitting to make people take notice.
As a consequence of the controversy a picture of the billboard appeared in the New Zealand Herald.
