Dr Aspin resigned at a meeting of the Board on Saturday, following a request for him to do so from the remaining trustees.
“Dr Aspin has become the target of sustained attack from various members within our stakeholder communities. Unfortunately, the nature of these attacks has prevented the Board moving forward on a much needed constitutional review. We needed to be able to move on,” says Mr Robb.
The NZAF Board is developing a process for a review of aspects of its constitution. The review has come about following concerns by the Board that it is currently unable to meet its legal obligations under it. Members of the NZAF stakeholder communities have also expressed concerns.
“We need to be working closely with our communities throughout this review. We are now in a better position to be able to do this,” says Mr Robb.
The NZAF Board will first consult with staff about the upcoming review during the organisation’s annual staff hui in September. Further details about the constitutional review process will be made available to stakeholders in October.
