A recent story on Shortland Street where character Nicole (actress Sally Martin), complained in an episode screened on Wednesday night that it was difficult to ‘come out’ in Tauranga, has angered Bay of Plenty Tourism boss Tim Burgess.
He was reported by TV3 as saying “It was a bit of a cheap and lazy shot by the writers of Shortland Street. They haven’t even bothered to really look at the facts. It is the fastest growing city in New Zealand outside of Auckland.”
Burgess said Tauranga was gay-friendly and seemed like a cheap shot from Auckland based writers.
